Waste Less at Mealtime
Grocery prices are on the rise, but there are still many things you can do to cut costs. One thing we have been doing in our house is to serve the children smaller portions. In the past, we would throw away a lot of food because, even though our children would eat some of their dinner, they were unable to finish the large portions we had given them. Throwing the food away is like throwing money in the garbage.
Another way to cut costs is to serve your meals on smaller plates. Joy and I discussed this a while back and agreed that smaller plates keep you from overeating. If you are serving smaller portions on a large dinner plate, you feel like something is missing. A smaller plate looks full, even with Iess food. I have tried this with cereal and found that my kids have less waste and our cereal lasts longer if I give them smaller bowls at breakfast. You can find a serving size chart here to help you figure out what portions are appropriate for your family.

Great tip for kids especially. I put cereal into little bowls for my kids, too. That way they THINK they are getting two bowls but it’s really one regular one. Thanks for sharing. Kelly
Joy,
Thank you for coming by my blog…I think the dishwashing detergent mix works great. Yes I use the 1/8 cup in each holder on the dishwasher. (side note…I am not sure if I should post this here or back at my site so I will comment there too) Have a great week!!
