Thursday Thirteen: Great Children’s Books
Growing up, I knew that every birthday and Christmas would bring with it a new and wonderful book. I was blessed with an aunt who worked at a library in downtown Chicago and in bookstores. She had her eyes on all the fabulous books that were out there and always knew the best books. She would only choose books with great writing and illustrations.
This tradition has now been passed down to my children. Each birthday and Christmas, an Aunt Gloria book arrives in the mail for them. This is an exciting event in our home. And inevitably, her gifts turn out to be the most loved and read books among our children. You know, the books that can be recited by heart by everyone in our family. So, here is a list of 13 magnificent “Aunt Gloria Books.” I highly recommend each and every one of them.
Sheep in A Jeep by: Nancy E. Shaw
Cowboy & Octpus by: Jon Scieszka
Diary of a Spider by: Doreen Cronin
Ducks Don’t Wear Socks by: John Nedwidek
One Naked Baby by: Maggie Smith
Little Quack by: Lauren Thompson
Orange Pear Apple Bear by: Emily Gravett
Giraffes Can’t Dance by: Giles Andreae
The Very Kind, Rich Lady and Her One Hundred Dogs by: Chinlun Lee
If You Give A Mouse A Cookie by:Laura Joffe Numeroff
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs by: Judi Barrett
And my favorite Aunt Gloria book from my childhood:
The Nightgown of the Sullen Moon by: Nancy Willard

There are some great books I have not seen! Check out my blog, on Thursdays I have Bugaboo Book Review, thought from an almost two year old. I also posted on a guest book review on http://kelseysmith.typepad.com/my_weblog/ which is my daughter favorite book right now.
