Introducing Jia from Color Me Untypical
We are excited to introduce you to Jia, our next kitchen of the week guest blogger at Happy To Be At Home. Beginning on Sunday, she will be opening her kitchen to us all and sharing all of her cooking adventures throughout the week. We hope you will join us!
Jia’s blog, Color Me Untypical, is a fun mix of just about everything. She blogs about her life, her husband, her homemaking skills and aspirations, and her cute dogs! If you’d like a delightful romp through her life and world, with lots of hilarity and encouragement thrown in along the way, we recommend you pay Jia a visit.
Jia writes:
Hi! My name is Jia and I’m a little untypical. I’m very excited to be guest posting here at Happy to Be at Home and I give major kudos to Toni, Joy and Kate for creating such a welcoming place to come, share and learn from one another. I am a writer and a Happy Housewife and have been married to the greatest man alive for four years. We met when we were fourteen years old, and I’ve been madly in love with his silly self ever since! We currently do not have any children of our own, but we treat our dogs like they are our babies and you can see their furry mugs plastered all over my blog, Color Me Untypical. We live in New Mexico with my husbands parents. This causes a lot of questions about us, but I like to clarify that we live with them volentarily and not because we NEED to. His parents are so great and I believe in multigenerational families. My mother in law is one of my best friends, and I can’t wait to bring children into this wonderful home where my husband grew up!
I began blogging over two years ago but have changed blogs quite a few times, trying to find the place where I really felt like home. I found that this year when my husband called me his “Untypical Girl”, after a song he heard that talked about a girl who wasn’t afraid to get dirty, loved goofing around, and didn’t follow the trends of a materialistic society. I blog about my daily adventures of a housewife, new recipes I try out, scripture study, my new calling as a Sunday School teacher and pictures of my Pugs. My goal is to show other girls the immense blessings that come from taking care of your family, whether you have children or not.
I wasn’t always a great cook. I was raised by working maternal figures that often over used the microwave and take out menus. When I got married and my husband expected me to cook, I didn’t know what I was doing. I began experimenting with foods and trying new things out and nearly gave up before I cooked my first Thanksgiving turkey and created the most wonderful honey glazed turkey ever, and it’s been gold ever since! Every week I ask my husband what he’s been craving lately, and I add those items to the menu. I try new things every week, and I try to take recipes I’ve found and really make them my own. It may sound mean, but my goal is to always outshine anyone who’s ever cooked for my family before . . . including my Mother in Law! She doesn’t mind though, since she gets to eat too!
I’m all about introducing great flavours into cheap eats. I rarely ever buy anything name brand, and I use our food storage as often as I possibly can. Just because it’s healthy doesn’t mean it has to taste like carboard, and just because they’re family doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a little flair with their food!
I can’t wait to welcome you all into my kitchen next week!
Thank you for your willingness to open your kitchen to all of us Jia. We are looking forward to spending the week in your kitchen.
