Introducing Amy from The Finer Things in Life
Welcome to my kitchen, Happy to be at Home readers! It’s a happenin’ place as I attempt to prepare three healthy meals a day for my family of 5 to eat between games and other Tiny Town activities. My name’s Amy, and I blog at The Finer Things in Life. The purpose of my blog, which I started 6 months ago, is to inspire and encourage others (and to be encouraged by others!) to embrace The Finer Things. I firmly believe that by removing the materialistic “want it, need it, gotta have it” attitude that society pushes us toward we can all live well on less. Much less.

After several years of suburb living, we up and moved to a tiny Kansas town 2 1/2 years ago. My husband teaches (he is the social studies department) and coaches football, basketball, and track. His long days are tough, but there are blessings to be found in all circumstances.
Giving up my 8-year teaching job (part-time for 2 of those years) after our oldest turned 2, I now stay home with the kiddos, working my dream job: Mommy. We often have an extra child or two in our home, which adds a little $$ to our “get the house paid off asap” account. Raising a family on one Tiny Town teacher’s salary isn’t the best way to fund the things that society says we need, but God is good, and somehow he stretches that salary and we end up with an abundance.
This is my kitchen at its best. Don’t be expecting to see it that clean this week, because it doesn’t happen too often!

I post my menu each Sunday evening for the week ahead. When planning our meals, I try to use what we have plus whatever’s on sale that week at the store. I am blessed with two refrigerator/freezer combos and one deep freeze. Rarely are any of them empty. We always have plenty of beef on hand, raised by my uncles. I love knowing where our beef comes from! It’s essential for me to have a stocked pantry and freezer, because the nearest grocery store is 15 miles away. Fast food? Not an option. It’s McMom’s or nothing around here!
My favorite thing about blogging is meeting so many interesting people, so please introduce yourself and let me know if you have any questions!
