If you’ve told your friends about your plans to finally get the keys for your very own home, then it’s very likely that they’re particularly excited about attending a party in your new place. After all, everyone enjoys getting together with their loved ones to celebrate great news, and enjoy some good food and drinks.
But is it really a good idea? Before you make a decision either way, familiarise yourself with these pros and cons…
1. It could be a load of fun
You’ve no doubt worked very hard to get your deposit together. You’ve probably said no to holidays and nights out, and so it’s fair to say that you deserve to let your hair down a little bit. A great housewarming party could be just what you need to mark the occasion and reward yourself for all that hard work!
2. You don’t have to follow any rules
When you’re the host, you get to decide what happens. If you want a daytime event where everyone leaves by 7pm, then that’s entirely your option. Equally, you could decide to ask everyone to bring a bottle and a contribution to the buffet. Doing things your own way will put you at ease, and can take away many of the potential problems associated with having a party in your home.
3. It could prove to be stressful
Even if you’ve decided to have just a really small gathering, there are still plenty of things that you might be worried about. You might be nervous about upsetting your new neighbours, for example, or how well different groups of friends will get along on the evening in question. Ultimately, how you feel about these things will be dependent on your personality type!
4. You’ll have other things to spend your time and money on
Maybe you’d much rather spend your free time decorating your new home. It’s also true that the cash you’re likely to spend on entertaining may be better spent on growing your savings, or making any necessary improvements. At the end of the day, it’s all about working out what’s most important to you.
As you can see, there are plenty of pros and cons when it comes to whether or not you should throw a housewarming party. Think carefully about what you want, and remember that it should be your own decision. Don’t let friends or family members pressure you into anything that you don’t feel completely happy with!
If you’re uncertain, why not wait a while until you’ve settled in? There’s no deadline when it comes to celebrating your achievements.
