Homeschooling Wednesday

homeschoolingwednesday Homeschooling Wednesday

This year I am trying something new for our homeschool, a yearbook. I have never made a yearbook before, but I thought it would be something fun for all the kids to work on and could help them develop skills they might not get in a packaged curriculum.

Since this is still an idea in progress, here is my initial thoughts on how this will work. I envision the yearbook to take the form of a scrapbook. There will be pages for each individual child, with their name, age, hobbies, and pictures of each child from the beginning and the end of the school year.

I will also include pages for sports, music, drama, and any other activities they are involved in this year.

Then I hope to have a section of projects the children completed throughout the year. Usually we make a few big crafts that I am unable to save forever because of the size. A brief write up from the child will accompany pictures of these items.

Each child will have a job on the yearbook team.

  • 9th grade girl- Editor and proof reader. She will proof all the kids’ writing, as well as put the yearbook together.
  • 6th grade boy- Photographer and contributing author. He is our budding photographer, so he will be in charge of taking all the pictures during the year. He will also write up activities and help with the production.
  • 3rd grade boy - Contributing author.
  • 1st grade boy- Contributing author.

Since I am about 7 years behind in scrapbooking, but have tons of supplies, I thought this would be a great way to record our year. I don’t have time to make individual books for the kids, so I thought combining them into one yearbook would work for our family. If any of you have experience in this area, I would love to hear from you. I will try to update our year book progress throughout the school year.

Homeschool Yearbooks work for us, I hope…. What works for you? Visit Rocks in My Dryer for more WFMW.

For the rest of the summer, Homeschooling Wednesday will be your forum. Each week you will be able to share with our readers your homeschool curriculum, schedule, lesson planning, curriculum reviews, or anything that might help other homeschooling moms have a better homeschool year

Here’s what you need to do to participate in Homeschooling Wednesday:

  1. Post a homeschool article on your own blog, and link back to this post.
  2. Then come back here and add your name, the subject of your post, and the post URL to Mr. Linky (Note: Please make sure you link to your individual post, not your blog’s main/front page!)
  3. If you don’t have a blog, but would still like to participate, just leave a comment here with your tip/list. Everyone’s ideas are appreciated.

Thanks for participating. We look forward to hearing from you!

  1. Thanks for the heads up!

I love your yearbook idea. Using your “staff” like that is awesome! :)

  2. I’m a scrapbooker… well, I haven’t done it for a year, but I AM a scrapbooker! Love your yearbook idea. If you want to involve your preschooler, this is what I’ve done… set up an ABC album just for her. Label each page with a letter of the alphabet (I used ABC stickers)and then give her a stack of “extra” pictures. She (with help) can then figure out which pictures go with which letters and put them on the correct page. Your older kids can help her label the pictures.

  3. What a fun idea! My oldest is just starting kindergarten, but I like the idea of older kids being able to take it on as their own project!

  4. great idea - I love the idea of involving all your kids!
