Homeschool Plan for 2008-2009
I am sharing my plan for next year with you, not so that you will run out and change all your curriculum. I am sharing it so that it may be a guide for those who are starting out, or for anyone who is looking to purchase a curriculum I am using and would like more information. Each family is different. Each child is different. What works for us, might not work for you!
If you have any questions about this list, feel free to leave it in the comment section or email me at 3moms@happytobeathome.net.

I want to add a note to the Toddler’s curriculum. This book is not a school book. It is a book that gives you activities for your children from birth to age 5. Things as simple as peek-a-boo to more complex activities as they get older. Also my four year old has wanted to “do” school for the past 2 years. The only reason we are doing these workbooks is because she is begging to do them. My boys had no interest in school when they were 4 years old and we didn’t do anything but read aloud, puzzles, blocks and other fun “educational” toys. I have a list of great preschooler toys on my other blog. For more WFMW visit Shannon’s blog.

Thank you for sharing. I’m still a new homeschooler and we’re using Alpha Omega’s Weaver. I’m not sure if it’s going to work when I have to add in my second son next year and I am looking for other options. Thank you for taking the time to post all the curriculum you use. I will be checking into some of the ones you mention. Thanks!
I have a one year old, and I never knew that there was a book on schooling for them! I intend to homeschool, and figured I had another year or two before we could start. Now I know better!
What great ideas! I’m starting to think about doing some structured “school” with my three year old and am overwhelmed with the possibilities. Thanks for sharing! Come on by Wani’s World sometime!
Oooh. Slow and Steady is so good! (And you can get it for a good price from Walmart.com)
Thank you for sharing your plan. I am hoping to sit down soon and figure out next years plan. I am going to use Teaching textbooks for my daughter who will be in 7th grade.
We are ordering our curriculum for next year this week. I am so excited…of course, my kids think I’m nuts
Our girls grades are 10th, 8th, 5th, and two preschoolers.
Thanks for sharing!
What a great idea to share your plan. We don’t homeschool, but I love learning about what others do, just in case we ever make that move.
This is our 7th year homeschooling. I see we are similar in some of our curriculum.
I have a suggestion for your highschooler on Personal Finance: Dave Ramsey has a program

What are the “credits” by your highschoolers curriculum?

Toni- i am new to homeschooling and will begin homeschooling my 3 next month (8, 6 and almost 4). what organization method do you use for at-a-glance viewing of the week with all your kids’ lessons? so you have a planner that you use? how do your children know what they are doing every week?
thank you very much for this section of the blog. i have really been enjoying ‘happy to be at home”! -amy
that was meant to be “do you have a planner that you use”….sorry!
I see you use Total Language Plus and Learning Language through Lit. - but you also use separate spelling and vocab stuff. Do you feel the others are lacking? How do you like Teaching Textbooks, we have decided on that for next year.
Hi Maggie-
Thank you for taking the time to ask a question.
I love, love, love, Teaching Textbooks. Even though it is expensive, in my opinion it is worth every penny. The main reason why I love it is because it takes “mom” out of math. Once my kids started reaching the Pre Algebra stage we started having major math issues. My kids would breeze through the first 40 or 50 lessons on their own and then get stuck. At the lower levels that was fine because I could just go to that particular lesson and help them. Once the math got harder, I couldn’t do that as well. Plus I wanted to be able to teach them the problem the same way the book was teaching it, which meant I usually needed to read back about 10 lessons to familiarize myself with the material. Since I have a lot of kids, I just didn’t have time to do that, which is why I love TT. They do it all for you!
As for Learning Language Arts Through Literature I do think it is week on spelling and grammar. That is just my own opinion, though. I have my kids skill the spelling part entirely in the book. We do grammar in both LLATL and Easy Grammar. Easy Grammar is pretty basic, only page per day, so I don’t think I am overwhelming them with grammar. That might not be true with a different program. I only us LLATL for the younger grades, as they get older we switch to Rod and Staff or TLP, whichever is a better fit for the child.
As for TLP, I think it is pretty strong in all areas that it covers. The vocabulary is awesome, as well as all the critical thinking skills. I haven’t used the vocab words for spelling because we were already working through Spelling Power when we started TLP.
I hope that answers your question. Let me know if you have any others.

Amy-
Credits are the amount of high school credit each course will be awarded. We school under an umbrella school so we have to keep track of credits starting in 9th grade. You need 22 credits to graduate in the state of Maryland. (I think

Any child seeing that homeschool curriculum would rather be schooled at home than in those other places!
Wow, how lucky are your kids! I mean this, wow what a curriculum!
