Enjoy Free Winter Fun Before It’s Too Late

Winter is quickly coming to an end, but there is still time to enjoy some cold weather activities with your children. Regardless of whether you live on a snow covered farm or in a large city with no snow to be found, these free and nearly-free ideas will help you enjoy the few remaining days of winter and hopefully inspire a few ideas of your own.
If you have snow on the ground…
-
Let your children help you make snow cream.
-
Collect a few old spray bottles and make snow paint.
-
Save some snow for the summer. Find the largest covered bowl your freezer space will allow and fill it with clean snow. Next summer, when your children are sweating in the heat of the day, bring the bowl of snow out and enjoy watching what your children do with it.
If you do not have snow on the ground…
You can still make the cold weather — coupled with the family cooped up inside — into a memorable event.
-
Start by cutting snowflakes from paper and maybe even hang them from the ceiling.
-
You can have an indoor snowball fight. Grab some large marshmallows (after you have ensured they are not hard and stale) and instigate a snowball fight. This is especially fun on the days when your children need an extra smile. Though they will think you’ve lost your mind, it won’t take long for them to join in your fun.
- If you have a wood fireplace, have a picnic inside, complete with hot dogs cooked over the fire. Consider stopping by the camping department of your local sporting goods store and look for packets of crystals or cones that are meant to be sprinkled onto the fire to create colored flames.
- Head to the library and borrow a family video. Light the fireplace and enjoy the movie with hot chocolate and cozy blankets.
How does your family enjoy winter inexpensively?

Those are great ideas, I have to remember to do the indoor camping. We have a large woodstove in our kitchen that we could pitch our play tent beside and cook smores on. Thanks
We’ve been exercising these all year.
What NEAT ideas to make memories with not spending a fortune. [0=
