Day Two in Paula’s Kitchen

I knew today was going to be a busy day.  I actually set my alarm clock hoping to wake up before the kids did so I could get a head start on breakfast.  I whipped up the baked oatmeal bars, set a batch of milk into the crockpot to make yogurt, and made a cup of coffee.  I had received in the mail last week a free sample of Starbuck’s new instant coffee.  I should have just brewed myself a pot as one cup is never enough!

 Day Two in Paulas Kitchen

I always use the red cup with the hearts and lay my spoon on the pink heart.  I’m a freak about it!  Is anyone else like this??

While I was making coffee, my oldest so woke and laid on the couch reading Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix.  He told me he got up early so he could read!  What mother could argue with that??

 Day Two in Paulas Kitchen

For breakfast the boys had boiled eggs and oatmeal squares with butter.  I ended up having a cup of coffee with coconut oil & heavy cream, then around 10:45am I had about a third of a cup of yogurt with strawberries.

While the boys worked on their lessons at the kitchen table, I cleaned up a bit.  I washed the window over my sink, both inside & out.  I love looking out while doing dishes and seeing my flowers and the butterflies.  Now that my window is clean, I can see!!  I also swept the floor and washed the storm door.  You can’t tell I cleaned it though, it’s dirty with fingerprints already.

We finished up with lessons around lunchtime.  I wanted to go into town to a fabulous local nursery that specializes in perennials.  I wanted to make the kids eat lunch before we left, but they kept refusing.  I figured out their ploy was to hit me with their hunger pains when I stopped for gas at the station that butts up to a McDonalds.  Sorry boys, I’m smarter than that!  We had leftover b-b-q from Saturday with strawberries and lacto-fermented pickle relish.

While the boys finished up lunch, I whipped up a batch of lacto-fermetned pearl onions and lacto-fermented pickle spears.  I’m hoping these turn out well as on Thursday we’re having brisket for Rhys’ birthday dinner and I LOVE pickled onions with beef.

When we returned from the nursery, UPS passed and brought me 3 packages.  It was a banner day for packages.  I had my pressure weight for my Mirro pressure canner, four packets of spices (nutmeg, turmeric, coriander, and cardamom), and my Magic Bullet Blender.  Woot!

 Day Two in Paulas Kitchen

I immediately sat down, read the instructions, then whipped us up some smoothies.  I’m really going to like this blender.  It’s much easier to clean up than my big one.

Dinner was an easy one since I worked in the yard most of the afternoon.  We had hot dogs.  Dh and I ate the hot dogs on lettuce leaves and the kids had buns, but the buns fell apart.  There are no plans for dessert tonight as we had those smoothies earlier today.

Tomorrow won’t be as busy, but I would like to work in my yard a bit more.  The weather promises rain on Wednesday, so I’ve got to get some things done before that happens.  Tonight I’ll soak some grits in whey & water for tomorrow’s breakfast.  I discovered a recipe for soaked whole wheat bagels.  I’m anxious to try these out, but I think I’ll wait until next week when I don’t have party preparations to deal with.

Thanks for taking a peek at my Monday.  See you tomorrow.

  1. I use our magic bullet several times a day. Smoothies, salso, salad dressings & marinades, grate parm. cheese, milkshakes, puree soups….it does everything but the dishes!

  2. Just curious, why do you put coconut oil in your coffee?

  3. I have always, always, always wanted a Magic Bullet! LOL
