Day Three in Angie’s Kitchen

day3 205x300 Day Three in Angies KitchenToday turned out to be quite the domestic day at my house!  In fact, I’m down right exhausted!  Do you ever have days like that?  You’ll probably notice it was a busy day because I only managed to take one food picture, and it wasn’t even really a food picture.  But, please forgive me, because I was busy trying to spread a little joy today.

For breakfast, I grabbed out all of our plastic cereal keepers and let each of the kids pick out whatever cereal they wanted.  Molly (my 4 1/2 year old), made the choice she usually makes, “What are you having Mom?”

I told her, “Hmmm…I think Corn Pops sound good today.”

“Okay, I want Corn Pops then,” she said with a smile.  Heaven forbid that I try to get her to narrow down her choice before I tell her what I’m having.

On to lunch, we each had a sandwich.  You’re already getting tired of me saying that we had sandwiches, right?  I can’t help it.  We tend to have a lot of sandwiches for lunch.  They’re quick and easy, and I like getting the whole grain wheat bread into the kids.  The kids also had some goldfish crackers and a banana.

I was glad for the quick lunch prep, because I spent a good portion of the day (off and on, but mostly on) working on dinner for tonight.  Not only was I making dinner for us, but I was also preparing dinner for a family that I know who has recently found themselves with the husband laid off from work (and the wife is a stay-at-home Mom).

Although I usually steer away from taking lasagna (because so many people do), I knew that there wasn’t a whole line of people taking meals to this family, so lasagna was a safe bet.  So, I prepared two lasagnas (one for our family and my parents, and one for the other family).  I also made the starter dough for artisan bread, and then made two loaves.

Molly and I worked together on dessert (while wearing our super cute matching apple aprons, since I always think it’s fun to take along dessert when you drop off a meal for someone.  We made both oatmeal cookies and deep dish brownies.  We gave their family half of each of these, and we saved half for our dessert.

In addition to the items that we made two of for our dinner (with my parents), I also added (for our dinner only) a mix of cantaloupe and strawberries as a side dish, and then a green salad with lettuce fresh from our garden.

As much as I loved doing something for friends, I do look forward to cooking for only my family tomorrow!

See you in the kitchen again tomorrow!
