Day One in Paula’s Kitchen
Sunday is usually a pretty relaxed day in my kitchen. I don’t like having to work on Sundays. I like to hang out with my family or go thrift shopping. The weather was so very nice this weekend. We spent all of Saturday doing yard work, so today, we wanted to take the boys fishing.
We went to Mass at 9 a.m. and then headed out to breakfast afterward at a local diner. They give you so much food that you are full until dinner time. We drove out to my friend’s pond and my husband and the boys headed to fish; I hung out with my friend swapping gardening information and looking at her past garden photo journals.
We came on back home and I wanted to finish transplanting some herbs into my new herb garden bed my husband dug out for me yesterday. My friend had also sent me home with three Japanese plums and some other flowers.

Last night we had bar-b-qued hamburgers and we had a ton of them leftover. Yay, leftover burgers for dinner, which means more time in my garden!! Woohoo!! I had made some lacto-fermented ketsup and some lacto-fermented salsa. I am still new to the Nourishing Traditions way, so this was my first time making the ketsup, but my second batch of salsa. The salsa is really spicy, but very tasty. The ketsup was too sweet and thick. I’ll have to tweak the recipe a bit.

After dinner, I poured my first batch of Kombucha into some quart jars. I am making three quarts with white grape/pomegranate-flavored Kombucha for the kids, but I’m leaving mine and dh’s plain. I had a glass of Kombucha after dinner. I must say, it’s one of the strangest things I’ve ever made or drank, but strange in a good way. Please see my blog for recipes for the salsa and Kombucha.
Tomorrow promises to be a busy day. I have yet to make my weekly lesson plan for my kids. I should get cracking, but I’m feeling rather tuckered out from all the sunshine and yard work. Tonight before I head to bed, I’m going to soak oatmeal for some baked oatmeal squares. I’ve already got some eggs that are boiled and peeled, so I don’t have to rush to cook breakfast for the kids.
I hope you all had a wonderful Sunday and are feeling rested and restored for the coming week.
