Day 6 in Kristen’s Kitchen

Friday, Day 6

Well, today our meals took a decidedly downwards turn. I spent the majority of the day in the ER, Target, and in Chick Fil A. Yes, it was certainly a day. For breakfast this morning, I threw some more cereal at the kids. Fruity Pebbles, you are the breakfast of champions. I called an audible on the day, and told the kids that we weren’t going to be productive this morning and just have a nice pajama day. Dave was supposed to be home around 8pm, and I thought we would play in the AM and then work in the PM. Ah, the plans of mice and men. While we lazed about in our jammies, I drank some doctored up coffee (milk, fancy creamer, hot cocoa mix) and perused the internet.

Later in the morning, the kids started to toss all the cushions off the couch and hop around and build forts. It was a nice morning. While on the phone with my friend, Cheryl, Little David came crying saying he hit his head. I picked him up, noticed a little blood on his neck (it looked like he’d gotten scratched) so I hung up the phone and went to tend to his little boo boo. It was SO not a little boo boo. What it was, was a giant gash on the back of his scalp. Friends, I don’t do blood. I have been known to pass out and throw up when faced with blood. It is a written rule in my marriage that when something is wrong with the kids, I do throw up, Dave does blood. We each have our kryptonite. So, the next few hours were spent racing to the ER, watching my tiny baby boy get a staple put in the back of his head and making sure that it didn’t get pulled out by his sister.

My fantastic sister in law stayed with me to help with the Tot while in the ER and my equally fantastic Father in law came as well, to be moral support and to take us to Chick Fil A when it was all over. Can I just say that I was expecting stitches, and when the Doctor pulled out the staple gun (with NO warning!!) I about got sick to my stomach. Yuck, yuck, yuck. After lunch, we came home and I began trying to clean up Little David and get him to nap, and then get Tot to just sit still so I could try to tamp down the all the crazy that was in my head after that little morning jaunt. I am a HUGE weenie when it comes to emergencies. I can get what needs to be done, done, but I am shaking and sick the whole time. Ugh, what a baby.

We spend the rest of the day, resting and cleaning up for Dave’s arrival and getting some groceries at Super Target. It was a long, long day and we were all tired. So, the kids got Spaghetti-O’s and put to bed early. And Dave was the best husband in the world, because he brought me Taco Cabana food and Dr. Pepper and then turned on “Friends” and we just ate and hung out on the couch and decompressed. That was just what I needed. So, sorry about the lack of pictures, but if you can picture a cup of coffee, a chicken sandwich, and a couple of tacos, then you pretty much have the idea :). See you tomorrow!
Thank you for opening your kitchen to us all this week Kristen.
