Day 3 in Kristen’s Kitchen

Tuesday, Day 3
First of all, I must apologize for the absolute lack of pictures today. Apparently, one of my children decided that licking Mommy’s camera would be funny and all my pictures came out quite blurry. It is also a testament to my photography skills that I neglected to notice that until I uploaded everything tonight. Ah, well, I know you are all shattered that you won’t be able to see my mad skillz at capturing the essence of scrambled eggs.
Speaking of, for breakfast this morning my kids received scrambled eggs and bananas tossed on a plate with very little ceremony. These same delightful beings woke up every half hour (they alternated) with some need/nightmare/cough/snuggle one after the other. It was brutal. Added to that, Dave had to be up and out for work at 3 am (not normal, thank heavens, just needed to be somewhere early), so I wasn’t in peak form. They are lucky I didn’t just throw cheerios at them from my bed. But I prayerfully made it through breakfast with the additional help of a vitamin and a smoothie, and my world was right once again.
For lunch, I totally cheated on you. I know, the shame of it all. I had planned a nice, sensible lunch of whole wheat sandwiches and fruit and veggies to dip with, but one of my great friends was leaving for places far, far away from here (Arizona!! That’s like a whole ‘nother country!) and I needed to get one last lunch with her family before they left to start their brand new life (stinking new job…). So we met at Chick Fil A and reveled in the wonder that is the Chick Fil A sauce (please don’t tell me if it’s bad for you. If loving it is wrong, I don’t want to be right.) and had a lovely time. In case you were wondering, I had my usual: A Number One, no pickle, with a Diet Dr. Pepper and extra Chick Fil A sauces, please. Fabulous.
The kids and I spent the rest of the day alternately working at cleaning the house up and making total messes with art supplies. It’s a hard balance to walk between a happy fun house and a complete disaster area. Tot got to practice her cutting and pasting skills (I even let her use liquid glue!) and I got to use my new dishwasher and squeel at how many more dishes I can get into it. Just to share, I can fit an entire blender top on my top rack!! I may actually look forward to doing the dishes now that I don’t have to play Tetris just to fit a cookie sheet inside.
By dinner time I was pretty bushed and got permission from my Mom to scrap the fancy dinner plans and just throw together some spaghetti (I don’t actually need permission from my Mom to do this, but it always helps to assuage the guilt :)). The good part is that I used Kraft Spaghetti in a box, which has only the absolute best spaghetti seasoning I’ve ever tasted, no matter how fancy the restaurant is. The kids loved it and totally chowed down and I enjoyed it and remembering how much I loved it when my Mom made it.
So, while we didn’t have a totally whole foods day, at least we had a great breakfast! Maybe tomorrow I’ll go three for three ![]()
