Conquer the Clutter
After reading my sister-in-law’s post, I was inspired to combine our Conquer the Clutter Challenge with Mommy Monday.
If you are like me, you have a “to-do” list a mile long. Even as I am typing this post my mind is racing with all the things I need to do this week. On top of my regular weekly activities, we are having visitors next weekend, and hosting a huge birthday bash for my husband on Sunday. (By the way, if you are reading this, know me personally, and live near me, consider this an invitation. Sunday, after church, my house, kids welcome) I am also preparing for the next school year, finishing up the current school year as well as trying to Conquer the Clutter in my house. When I think about everything that needs to be done, it can get overwhelming. I realize there are not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I need or want to do.
And then there are the kids, in my case six of them. Strangely enough, they always seem to want to be around me. Sadly, when my list is long and time is short, the first I do is try to find something else for my kids to do, besides spend time with me. How many times have we told our children we will play with them, right after we finish the 17 things we need to do. Many times, in my case, the “right after” never comes, and another day goes by. Time that we can never regain, possibilities lost, memories never made.
While I want to encourage all of you to keep up the great work Conquering the Clutter, remember to make time for your kids. Summer is a fantastic time of year. Stay up late and catch fireflies, roast marshmallows, set up a tent in your backyard. Run through the sprinkler, eat ice cream on the front porch, take a walk around the block as night falls. Play games, blow bubbles, make chalk drawings until your fingers turn chalky white. Just spend time with them. There will always be dishes in the sink, clothes in the washer, and crumbs on the floors. There will not always be sticky hands on your legs and sweet smile looking up asking for a few minutes of your time.
Now that you have all spent time making awesome memories with your kids, let’s see what Clutter you have conquered this week.
- The Happy Housewife is continuing her whole house clutter conquer, she has finished her school clutter and is moving on to the garage and play room.
- Angela at Testosterone Palace has been working on her bookcase full of stuff, filed bills and various other paperwork, and returned items to her office at school that belong there. She’s also given her sister the goodies that belonged to her.
- Michele at Frugal Granola cleaned out her freezer this week. She has inspired me to do the same.
If you’d be interested in joining us for this month’s End 08 Great challenge, leave us a comment or send us an e-mail and we’ll add a link to your site in this post so that we can follow along with your progress. And for those of you who are already conquering your clutter, don’t forget to keep us updated!

You are so right. I have three boys, and the first two are several years older than the youngest. I have learned that childhood really is fleeting, and we’ve got to choose to savor the moments, even when they seem inconvenient.
I have been working on my bookcase full of stuff.
I’ve filed bills and various other paperwork.
I’ve returned items to my office at school that belong there.
I’ve given my sister the goodies that belonged to her.
I am left with three pictures that need frames and a portable DVD player that needs a home when not in use. I shall deal with those this week!!
Thanks for the motivation,
Angela
Great reminder to keep balance. We can’t declutter all day/week and miss these times with our kids. We actually just roasted marshmallows this weekend. The weather wasn’t cooperating, so we did it over our stove. I almost like it better. No stars or fresh air, but no smoke in my eyes or bugbites either!
Now to that clutter (it does need some of my attention, too). . .
I cleaned out my freezer this weekend!
I wrote about it on my blog.
Blessings,
MIchele
I really needed to read this. Thanks!
Well I finally bit in and decided to join the conquer clutter challenge! My husband and I redid our Den yesterday and hopefully it’ll be completely finished by this weekend when we have our garage sale!
