There was a time when homes were spacious and there was more than enough room to accommodate every family member comfortably, with plenty of space to move about. During these times of financial worries, banks are no longer willingly lending money for mortgages and as a result there are a number of families that, quite simply, have outgrown the sizes of their homes.

This is readily apparent with ventilation systems as they were built in according to the size of the space to be vented, but also with the amount of use in mind as well. In a home that was built to house perhaps four or five people, current exhaust fans may not have adequate power to extract moisture and odours produced by greater numbers of people.

As well as having proper ventilation to remove excess moisture from the home, other contaminants such as pollen, pet dander, mould spores, lead, tobacco smoke and cleaning supply odours should also be vented out properly. Again, with more people living under the same roof along with family pets, older exhaust systems may just be inadequate – if they are working at all!

However, even proper kitchen and bathroom exhaust units may not be all that is necessary to see to proper ventilation. Other parts of the ventilation system which should be checked and replaced as needed would include attic ventilation, dryer ventilation, heat recovery ventilation and even air exchangers. With so much moisture and so many contaminants and odours to contend with, it is imperative to thoroughly update venting systems on older homes.

Electrical wholesalers UK is the source for all your electrical needs such as Twin and earth cable, including today’s ventilations systems which are compliant with Building Regulations. Whether installing vents and air exchangers in older homes or new builds, this is where the savvy shopper finds the best deals in the UK, from a company that has been doing business for over a century. That fact alone stands for itself.

LED lighting is increasingly present in the households around the world, as it has lots of advantages over more traditional methods such as incandescent, halogen or fluorescent neon tubes.

The LEDs have a new light source ideal alternative for sustainable development due to its energy saving, which is one of its biggest advantages. Green technologies are very popular today because it seems we have finally become aware of its importance.

The LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a solid semiconductor device that emits light when he runs an electric current. Nowadays it is considered as the light source with higher performance.

Moreover, LED lamps contain mercury vapor not unlike fluorescent lamps. This makes them safer and less toxic than common fluorescent bulbs.

Finally, it is very interesting in home decor. With LEDs you can have color schemes and lighting changes in your home that will make you a very happy and fun.

There are many types of lighting you can put in your home, even if there is an option that is most used and, above all, the most appropriate, that is certainly to fluorescent tubes. With them forward in quality and quantity of light and with low power consumption and expenditure is amortized quickly. Same for the bathroom. Takes note of the characteristics of the fluorescent and its great advantages in your home:

- You can place either on the ceiling and in the area where most go to work, but you can also combine and put them in both places.

- The halogen bulbs of fluorescent lights have a bright white light, ideal for areas of the bathroom and kitchen because there perform tasks that require lots of light.

- The fluorescent lights typically last between 2,000 and 4,000 hours on, what would be always leave running for 5 months. Thus, can last you several years.

- If you’re going to put in the bathroom, say that it is highly recommended that you do up a mirror because it would create several shades that can change the reflection, which does not happen if you put the sides.

- As for the bedroom, it is recommended than the main light as it would be too bright, it is best that you can do auxiliary lighting points, such as small lamps you have in your bedside table or next to any applicable headboard. Protect with a non glare screen so much.

<script type="text/javascript"

No matter if your home features hardwood commercial flooring or ceramic tile flooring, in winter most homes tend to suffer from the same problem. No matter how much you crank up the heat and no matter how resilient you are in the face of flooring, there are few sensations more unpleasant than a cold floor, when you’ve just come in from the cold and expect a warm room to welcome you and make you feel, well… like home. Besides, isn’t it great when you can get home and just kick off your shoes, peel off your socks and put your feet up? If warm flooring is what you’re dreaming of, this article is here to tell you that there are several ways to achieve this, some more complex than others, but all of them worth giving a shot to.

Radiant Under-Floor Panels

Under-floor panels will not only provide you with warmer floors, but will also heat up your entire home. The system is quite simple to comprehend, albeit not as easy to implement. In essence, it involves putting in radiant panels underneath your floors. The heat will radiate through the floors, then off the walls and into the air of the entire room. There are several types of panels available on the market today. Some are powered by electric cables, while others use water tubes (and employ what is generally known as hydronic heating). It is generally used in homes with hard wearing flooring such as tiles, but can also work underneath hardwood flooring. Most often, the process will involve remove your current flooring system, installing the radiant panels and then putting the flooring back in. Of course, you can also use this opportunity to put in an entirely new set of floors while you’re at it.

Insulating Your Basement Ceiling

If you live in a home, as opposed to an apartment in a block of flats, you can always consider insulating the ceilings in your basement. More often than not, the floors of the rooms that are right above the basement will be chilled by the cold air in the basement. This alternative solution can often prove cheaper than removing your flooring and having an entire heating system put in. However, the downside to this method is the temperature in the basement itself. If you’re not currently heating your basement, but still spend a considerable amount of time in there, you will find out that insulating the ceilings will make the basement even colder, since it is currently heated by the warmth radiating from the rooms upstairs. If you want warmer basements, consider insulating the basement walls instead of the ceiling.

Rugs and Carpets

Perhaps the cheapest and most readily available method for warming up the rooms in your home is to have rugs and carpets put in. Wall-to-wall floor covers are often the best method for ensuring the warmth of your floors. They are not too expensive, they are durable, they add a touch of class to the room, if you select a complimentary colour to your current décor and they will definitely make your floors warmer.
