Being A Fun Mom

mommymonday Being A Fun Mom

I will never, ever, in a million years be a perfect mom. It took me a few years to realize that, but now I’ve made peace with that fact. But, I do try every day to be a good mom. I have my good days and my bad days of course, but overall I think I’m succeeding so far. Lately though, I’ve realized I also want to be a fun mom. I want my kids to look back some day and remember the good mom stuff as well as all the fun we had together.

I’ve noticed that being a fun mom isn’t that hard. All I have to do is follow the lead of my kids. They know what’s fun and they show me what I need to do for them to see me as fun. Here are some things my kids have taught me about being a fun mom.

A Fun Mom…

  • Laughs at every joke. Even if it is the same joke that’s already been told 200 times today. And especially if said joke doesn’t make any sense.
  • Not only lets you build a fort with all the couch cushions, but also plays in the fort with you.
  • Sometimes cuts your sandwich into fun shapes.
  • Lets you style her hair with a razor-sharp comb and saliva.
  • Lets you wear your bathing suit all day long for 6 days in a row.
  • Teaches you how to blow bubbles in your milk.
  • Asks you to kiss her ouchies.
  • Lets you “steal” some fruit that’s being cut for lunch and pretends to not see the theft.
  • Makes really long worms with play-doh.
  • Can hang a spoon on the edge of her nose while kneading bread dough.
  • Always claps her hands and cheers for the your rock band that is made up of the loudest pots and pans in her cabinet.
  • Sometimes hands you a cookie out of the blue for no good reason, other than that she feels like it.
  • Knows how to make some pretty funny faces.
  • Likes to chase you and tickle you once she catches you.
  • Swings her arm when she holds your hand.
  • Lets you lick the beaters when making cookie dough or brownies.
  • Occasionally makes mistakes on purpose just to hear you laugh.
  • Sometimes sprays you with water when she is washing dishes.
  • Can play peek-a-boo nonstop for at least an hour.
  • Tries to do things she doesn’t know how to do (or can’t do anymore) when you ask her to, including hula-hooping, somersaults, and the splits.
  • Lets you protect her when you are being a knight and acts afraid when you are being a pirate.
  • Can talk really, really fast.
  • Has an endless supply of hugs, kisses, and “I Love Yous.”

What are some things that you do to be a fun mom? Please share, we’d love to hear about it!

  2. Ohhhhhh…I really wanna be a fun mom. I think I fit the bill, sometimes. But overall, I think I need to loosen up when it comes to being the mom. Thanks for the reminder. :)

  3. Comment from Carri-
I have been convicted often over the last couple weeks to be more FUN. I blogged about it myself at my blog:

Head on over and give some more ideas… I’m not the most fun person around. I need lots of help.

  4. These are a hit in our house:
    1. Eats fake food meals and pretends they are gross with exaggerated reactions.
    2. Dances really goofy, teaches our goofy moves.
    3. Wakes kiddos up from naptime with a fun song and a cookie.
    4. Sings along with kid’s music in the car, loud and silly.
    Thanks for the great post!
