August Challenge ~ Face Time with the Kids
Fun and Games
One way that we like to spend quality time with our kids is to play games. Depending on your childrens ages, there are a variety of games available. Many of them are probably tucked away in a closet in your own home. At least that is the case for my family. We have many games but can go weeks without playing them because they are in a closet.
Here are a few of our favorites.
Toddlers
Lucky Ducks and Let’s Go Fishing
Preschoolers
Zingo and Chutes and Ladders
Younger Elementary
What’s Gnu and Hangman
Older Elementary
Guess Who and Battleship
Even if you don’t own many games, you can spend time with your children playing Simon Says, Charades, or Hopscotch. If you have a deck of cards you can play Go Fish or Rummy.
This week, I plan to play a game with each of my kids each day. Some games can be played with more than one child, like Lucky Ducks, Bingo or Chute and Ladders. Other games, like Battleship and Guess Who will give me individual time with different kids. During our game time we will be able to talk and interact in a natural environment. I will have the opportunity (I hope) to discuss the upcoming school year and any concerns they might have.
What are your favorite family games? What activities do you have planned this week in order to spend more quality time with the kids? School is starting soon and our schedules will quickly fill with the activities of the school year. Let’s make the most of these last few weeks of summer by spending them with our kids.
The “Face Time With The Kids” End 08 Great challenge is all about spending some real, quality time with our children. It is so easy to get caught up in all of our day-to-day duties that sometimes spending time with the kids can get pushed aside. So let’s take this opportunity throughout the next month to put our children front and center in our everyday activities. Let’s build some memories and tie some heart strings.
If you do not have children, we encourage you to join in also. Surely there is someone in your life who would greatly benefit from some quality time spent with you. This month, we challenge you to make them a priority.
Won’t you join us this month as we challenge you (and ourselves), to spend some quality face-time with our children? To join, simply write a post on your blog about what you will be doing this upcoming week in an effort to fit in that special quality-time, or let us know what you are already doing. Link your individual post below. If you don’t have a blog, leave a comment letting us know what you are doing to spend quality time with the kids.

I so agree with your ideas: first reading, then cooking and then games. We love our Saturday night games’ night. Thankyou for encouraging such good activities.
This Face Time series came at a perfect time for us, with our “back to school” schedules and my husband’s super-busy football schedule… it’s sometimes too easy to forget to play!
We love games here too! All of the Cranium games are our favorites. We play Hullabaloo almost every day in the winter. And things like Twister. Anything to get a little energy out!
Now don’t forget that the adults have to join in too for Drop Everything And Read….(D.E.A.R.)
I’m just now starting your challenge, so I’m a bit behind! I plan on incorporating all your great ideas! Thanks for helping me treasure the time with my kiddos!
