2 Moms, 20 Pounds: Weigh-In Wednesday #5
This is our fifth Weigh-in Wednesday, so here’s the update on our progress this last week. At the end of the post we’d love for you to link up to your own update post about your weight-loss progress. We look forwards to cheering you on!
Food
JOY: I ate pretty well this week, portion-wise. I haven’t been recording my food in my journal, but I also haven’t been having trouble with snacking.
KATE: This week was much better then last week. However, I did have a few days when I wasn’t concentrating so much on eating throughout the day and I was super hungry late at night. I’ve also been slacking a bit in my food journaling and I really need to get better at that. It is such a great tool for keeping me accountable.
Water
JOY: My intake this week was not so good. I drank water with meals, but I didn’t make sure I had a glass of water available between meals. Drinking a lot of water is not something I’m quite used to yet.
KATE: My water intake has become a habit. However, there was one day last week when I didn’t get as much water as I knew I should. By the end of the day I had a headache and my ankles were starting to swell. I will not let that happen again!
Exercise
JOY: Um, not a bit. My first week on the Wii Fit I did great! But I haven’t touched it since. Bad, Joy!
KATE: We made our first trip as a family to the Y this week for an orientation. Although I’ve been too busy to go just yet, I do have a plan I’m very to start. Plus, my husband has been twice already, and seeing how good he feels is a definite motivator.
Challenges
JOY: Obviously water and exercise are such a challenge for me that I’m failing pretty miserably. I really need to plan for both of these things or they will never happen.
KATE: My late-night snacking habit is still an issue. I really need to come up with a better system so that I’m not starving and grabbing a handful of pretzels 20 minutes before bed.
Successes
JOY: My husband and I went on a date night this last weekend. Instead of going to a full-blown restaurant where I am sure I would have overeaten, we chose to go to Panera Bread where I had a half sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup. It was filling, delicious, and much, much cheaper than Olivie Garden!
KATE: Smaller portion sizes has become a habit. I am fully satisfied eating a smaller amount and I never feel the desire to go back and have seconds. That feels like a major success for me!
Plans for the next week
JOY: I hope to maintain my self-control, even at Blissdom. I’m not going to keep to a strictly limited intake, but I will try to keep myself from gorging myself on what I’m sure is going to be a lot of great food!
KATE: I think Blissdom is going to skew my plans. But I am fully prepared for that and I’m ready to cut myself a little slack. I am planning to get right back on track as soon as I get home though. I’ll also be hitting the Y 4 times a week.
Weigh-in
JOY: I weighed in at 158.8, down just over a pound from last week. I’m very encouraged by my slow but steady progress. At this rate I just might make my goal by my 34th birthday next month!
KATE: I’m 3/4 of a pound down from last week. This slow progress is a bit discouraging. However, I know by past experience that once I start working out regularly the weight will drop much more quickly.

Water is hard for me, too! Ugh! I have made myself drink a full 2 cups before I drink my coffee in the morning and hten another 2 to take with my vitamin in the morning. The other 4 are up in the air, but so far out of about 3 weeks I’ve gotten most days except 2 in.
Exercise has been hard for me as I have a lot of pain later. Ugh!
I only did 1 day last week and then yesterday. I’m hoping for a few more this week though.
Good work, ladies! Proud of you both! This week I weighed 149.6; that’s a loss of 1.8 lbs for the week and a total loss of 10 lbs since 1-5-09 on WW.
